I admit that FriendFeed is what I was thinking of. I think the way that it handles comments is really good (though it doesn't have any concept of a read comment either).

I come back to Jaiku in the morning and I have a whole bunch of comments that are out of context. It's a little better with jaikungfu because at least you have the full jaiku as a link. I would like the original jaiku, along with its thread, moved to the top whenever there's a new comment. That way I can always read them in context. It would be great if the collapsing of the thread was configurable, so that only the comments that are new since my last visit are expanded by default, but I'm not sure that Jaiku has a concept of a read comment.

Funnily enough, Twitter was in my mind when I decided this. I know I'll miss gems, but it will also allow me to follow more people. So I'll get diverse gems.

We're not here enough to be able keep an eye on things. We've got electric fences all around the perimeter already, but it's not enough to keep the rabbits out, obviously. The trees are 6 years old, which is supposed to be old enough that the rabbits won't touch them.
